Photographic Skills

Which of the following photographic features/equipment have you used on a camera before:

Manual Focus features	x		I used this when zooming in and out which can be seen in my ‘photography for unit  3’. I also used this to focus my images.

A tripod	x		I used this when taking pictures for my dps and front cover in the photography studio.
External flash	x		I used this in the studio when taking pictures for my font cover and dps which can be seen in my blog entry ‘photography for unit 3’
Self timer facility	x		I used this when taking pictures for my project in order to prepare the model for action. I have also used this previously at home.
Light meter		x
Composition grids Honey comb lighting	X x		As shown in my blog I have used a range of composition girds such as the line technique, back lighting and framing. I have learnt how to use honeycomb lighting in my shots in order to create a spotlight this can be seen in my blog entry ‘photography for unit 3’

Photoshop Skills

Which of the following features of Photoshop have you used before:

Text control	x		I have created text throughout the year. Examples of this can be seen in ‘dps and front cover write up’, ‘…load selection features’ and ‘induction evaluation front cover 1’
Filters	x		I used the filter ‘bevel and emboss when creating the smashed screen effect for my leading page. I have also used the liquify filter for the main 3 mirror images in ‘dps and front cover write up’ and also can be seen in the ‘liquefy experiment’. Unsharp mask has also been used and can be seen in my blog entry
Brushes	x		I used brushes for the splatter effect as seen in my ‘dps and front cover write up’
Layers	x		I am very familiar with layers at this stage with them being used in almost all of my photography for my front cover and dps.
Opacity control	x		I used this for my front cover when creating a button. By using this tool parts of the model were able to be seen.
Shape creation	x		I used this when creating the button tool for my front cover. I have also used this in my ‘induction evaluation front cover 1’
Brightness and contrast control	x		In most of my pictures for my final product I used this. Especially for my front cover where the skin tone of my model has been brightened significantly
Gradients	x		As shown in my blog entry ‘creating a gradient’
Load selection features	x		As shown in my blog entry ‘creating and gradient and load selection features’
Feathering	x		A shown in my blog entry ‘feathering’
Colour curves adjustment	x		This can be seen in ‘cross process experiment’, I also used curves when lightening my pictures for my front cover and when adding a green, red and orange tint to my mirror images. Both these can be seen in ‘ dps and front cover write up’
Resolution setting control	x
Magnetic lasso, polygon lasso tool	x		I have used both tools often for example when selecting my model for the splatter effect (‘dps and front cover write up’). I have also used it when creating vampire teeth in ‘vampire effect’.
Cropping tool	x		For most of my images I have used the crop tool an example of where it was used is my front cover (‘dps and front cover write up’) in which most of my models legs have been hidden.
Clone tool	x		I used this to get rid of certain factors such as dirt on the backdrop for my front cover.
Retouch tool		x
Other skills Colour replacement  tool Dodge, Burn & sponge tool	X X		I used this when editing my model for my front cover. I replaced the colour of the lips and eyes with another one. Examples of where I have used the dodge and burn tool can be seen in ‘simple post production graphic work’ and on my front cover ‘dps and front cover write up’. I have used the sponge tool in ‘vampire effect’ blog entry.

In Design Skills

Have you ever used In design ever before?		x	I had not used in-design before starting college
Margin and column guide creation	x		Evidence of this can be shown in ‘dps and front cover write up’
Inserting an image ID	x		I used this for all my images when inserting them into indesign using ‘file’ and ‘place’ evidence of this is shown in the ‘dps and front cover write up’ and ‘my first indesign page’
Resizing images in ID	x		I have resized images to control the text and image ratio in my dps.
Text manipulation – resizing, rotation	x		I have rotated the splatter effect image of my dps and resized the mirror images on the left hand side of my dps.
Text manipulation – controlling kerning and leading	x		I used kerning for my front covers brand name when controlling how far apart the letters were from each other.
Text flow creation	x		For my article I used text flow creation to spread my article from one point the other in my dps.
Using transparent imagery in ID	x		I have done this for my leading page and front cover
Shape/line creation In design	x		I used dotted lines across my margin guides. I originally wanted my leading page to include curved and therefore have practiced creating a path and inserting text onto a path.
Exporting to PDF from In-design	x		I did this when for when I uploaded my dps onto the college’s moodle system.
Text Wrap	x		I used this for when placing my sub headers within my article
Other Skills Creating a drop out box Using drop caps	X x		In my dps I have used a drop out box in which I have added colour and made the edges of the box curved For my splatter effect image on my dps I have added a drop cap, adding shadow to it for a professional effect.
