Narrative voice in magazine articles

Narrative voice in magazine articles

Manner of address
Effect on reader
Example
First person
I
Never used in news papers, but used more in magazines as they are more informal. It is more emotional form of address. It is also more personal and chatty and connects with the reader. It is also known as a subjective narrative of voice to get closer to the reader. You mainly find first person in women’s magazines as it makes it feel chatty and more emotional as that stereotypically is what women are like.
I interviewed 500 people on..
First person plural
We/ inclusive narrative
It creates a feeling that they are bringing the TA together. Humans like to belong to groups of people.  As it feels safe.
we as human beings are obsessed with the way we look
Second person narrative voice
You/direct address
It is called direct address it is hardly used as it is very powerful, because it is aiming the article at the reader. It also commanding the reader slightly aggressive and sharp on the reader. It also has the effect of speeding up the piece of writing. It is also a good way to start an article as it grabs the attention of the reader and makes them want to read on. It also creates impacts.
Are you self conscious about the way you look ?
Third person
Emits I, you and me. Uses he and she
The effect this has on the reader is like you are being told a story it can also be distancing the author from the events. It allows the readers to have space to have their own options on the mater. It is also full of facts. It is also known as being used to report facts. It has a very formal appeal to the type of writing
She was desperately seeking support

Taboo language you can either have mild taboo or extreme taboo

An example of mild is in swearing in modesty. For example a**e, bl**dy hell, c**p. Magazines do write like this in some cases it all depends on the TA.
There is also extreme taboo. Where people would more inappropriate for example f**k, s**t, b***red, w***er, c**t.
